© epSos.deA new report indicates that a growing number of Americans believe that marriage is now becoming obsolete. The non-profit Pew Research Center and Time magazine reported that almost four in ten Americans say marriage is no longer necessary in today's society. In contradiction, in 1978, only 28 percent thought that marriage was becoming obsolete. Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau showed that only 52 percent of those 18 or older were married.
The report found poorer Americans are less likely to get married than those with a college education and a good income, however, marriage rates are declining across all U.S. socio-economic groups. Researchers also said that the changing attitude toward marriage is having an adverse impact on American families, with almost one out of every three children living with one parent or with parents who are not married.
