Wedding Cake Trends

Do you remember the days when wedding cakes weren't expected to taste good and if you bit into one that was moist and delicious, it was cause for celebration? These days, cakes are more than just the dessert at the reception. Not only have they evolved into works of art in some cases, but the last several wedding cakes I've tasted have been absolutely delicious.

Recently, The Knot's Carley Roney appeared on CBS's The Early Show to discuss what's new in wedding cakes.

Some wedding cake trends to look out for include:

Unique shapes, like squares, rectangles, even hexagons
Chocolate
Mini cakes, either for individual guests or for each reception table
Graphic prints and bold colors
Patterns or banding
Metallics
Monogram detail

As any bride-to-be knows, shopping for a wedding cake early is important! As the wedding season approaches and gets into full swing, start looking at cakes now if your big date is anytime this year.
