Wedding Invitations
by Crystal Unrau on February 21, 2007
D.I.Y. or Do-It-Yourself is one of the hottest trends right now - from invitations to favors, cake toppers to decor. For some brides, DIY is great because of the money saving opportunities - but for many brides, DIY is a way to create one-of-a-kind, original touches that no other bride will have. Invitations are one of the most popular DIY projects because good quality printers and paper are becoming more affordable. If you are not graphically inclined, but what a great looking, unique invitation, the best option is to purchase a basic DIY template and then dress it up to make it unique to you.
As an example, check out these three templates from Uniquity Invitations. The templates, which can be made in any color you wish - are $79 (including matching place card, favor tags, menus cards, programs, and table numbers along with the invitation and rsvp card). You start off by creating the basic template, and then you can dress it up in many ways. The second set of photos shows the same templates, dressed up to make them more unique. These used ribbon. fibers and colored backing papers. You could also use small scrapbooking embellishments, charms, and more for literally hundreds of different variations.

I especially love the middle invitation - now there was a bride with a true DIY spirit - the invitation is unique, unlike any other, and looks like an expensive, designer invitation! The key to making DIY successful is to keep in mind that HANDMADE does not have to look handmade or tacky!
