If you've never heard of a groom's cake, here's a little story behind this historically Southern tradition: The groom's cake is traditionally a fruit cake. Don't worry, I have yet to see one of those rock-hard confections you hope you don't get at Christmas at any recent weddings I've attended. The trend now is to design the cake toward the groom's interests, for the most part.
I've seen football cakes, baseball cakes, beer cakes...you know, typical guy stuff.
I also saw a cake like this, with the Tuxedo-clad strawberries, which were adorable.
The groom's cake is smaller than the wedding cake and is often made in a yummy flavor like plain ole chocolate. Of course, it's up to the groom to decide what he wants. I know everyone is busy telling the bride it's "her day," but let the guy get a little something of his own.
