When you make the decision to tie the knot, the first thing that you have to do to start the wedding plans is to set the date. After that, for me the next most important aspect is the budget. Why? This will be a deciding factor for many of the other preparations you need to do between now and the wedding date. The venue, the number of guests, how elaborate the ceremony would be, how big the wedding party will be, the food, the gowns, the rings, the photographer... pretty much everything, down to the last pin you'd be sticking on your hair.

It can be a bit awkward talking about money, but if you want to avoid more money issues down the road, it is better to sit down with your significant other and work out a wedding budget. It may be an approximate in the beginning, just for both of you (and your families) to have an idea how big the wedding is going to be, but as you proceed to plan the details, it's a good idea to have a wedding budget worksheet. Depending on the type of spender you are, you may even want to arrange for Prepaid Credit Cards (sounds like an oxymoron, but it does work for many!) to help you stick to the budget.
