George Takei Weds Brad Altman
Filed in archive Celebrity Weddings on September 15, 2008
Maybe you don't have access to a "Buddhist priest, Native American wedding bands, a Japanese Koto harp and a bagpipe procession" (at least, not all at the same time!), but when George Takei married his longtime partner, Brad Altman, this past weekend, those were just some of the details surrounding their big day.
Ever since the ban on gay marriages was overturned in California, same sex couples have run to make their unions legal and official; celebrities are no different (and this certainly puts a new spin on blogging about weddings). Recently, we saw Ellen and Portia tie the knot, now it's Star Trek's Mr. Sulu.

According to reports, the ceremony was multicultural and the two men exchanged vows they had written themselves.
Some of the wedding guests included Takei's former Star Trek co-stars, Walter Koenig (Mr. Chekov) and Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhuru) - can you tell I'm a Trekkie? Koenig was the best man and Nichols was the best lady.
Giving a nod to their multicultural union, food served to the guests included "Asian/Baja Californian fusion cuisine" and guests were treated with Japanese tea-ceremony treats in boxes printed with the phrase: "May sweet equality live long and prosper," giving a nod to some Star Trek lingo. I think if you've stuck it out with someone for 21 years without the benefit of marriage, then tying the knot only adds to the relationship. Congrats, guys!
