Decor Ideas

We are just kicking off the Spring & Summer wedding session, but many of you are already planning for weddings later in the year, so today's Edible Centerpieces post is for Christmas Weddings. There are many things you can use in Christmas centerpieces - fruit cake, candy canes, gingerbread cookies, etc. Here are a few ideas to get you started. All of these could be done as DIY projects, but for those brides who avoid DIY at all costs, your baker or cake baker could make these as well.
The Cookie Christmas Tree - this was actually made using a kit that used to be available on Amazon but it is currently sold out. It may be just a seasonal thing. Anyway, you could easily have your cake bakery make these for you, or if you want to try it yourself - it's a collection of various size stars stacked to make a Christmas tree. Icing, sprinkles and silver edible beads are then added as decoration.
The Truffle Topiary - This is one that could really be used any time of year just by changing some of the colors. It is a DIY project and complete instructions are available here. If you are a true DIY bride, you can even make the truffles yourself. The color of the truffle icing, ribbons and wraps could all be changed to suit any wedding as well.
The Gingerbread House - Your first thought is probably of those childhood creations that, while fun to make, were not exactly wedding worthy. But as you can see from the pictures here, that doesn't have to be the case. Gingerbread houses can be made in an endless selection of designs, styles and colors! For the DIY bride, this could also be a great group project with your sisters, mom, bridesmaids, etc. Start with one demo piece that you do yourself to show what you want them to look like, then have them each help create matching ones with you. OR - provide candy and decor items that all match you color scheme and let each person design their own for some coordinated variety.

Well, some of them could be made ahead of time. Gingerbread houses can be made a week or so before, but the gingerbread may not be so edible anymore. The guests can still enjoy the candy though.
In most cases, if you are going to be doing an edible centerpiece, you will want to have your caterer make them the morning of the wedding so they are fresh. Ask your caterer about it, they know what lasts how long, and how to make it work with your wedding.

Also, I was thinking that once can have something like these in wedding receptions, too. For example, instead of chocolate fountain you can have something like this edible centerpiece.
