Did he or didn't he?

Prince Williams surprised his girlfriend, Kate Middleton, with a beach wedding ceremony while they vacationed in the Seychelles. The ceremony was allegedly overseen by a local preacher and two witness and was planned so last minute that the Prince did not have time to get a ring. Instead, he gave his "bride" a red leather band that he purchased from a local beach trader. William wore shorts and a t-shirt while Kate wore a sarong.

While no one is saying for sure, insiders are fairly sure that the ceremony was not a legal marriage but rather a informal commitment ceremony between the two. The Globe quotes a source as saying: "This was the moment that William committed himself to Kate - forever. He told her that he would love and protect her for the rest of his life."

Part of me kind of hopes that it was for real - I love it when "celebrities" surprise us with private, romantic ceremonies. But then again, who wants to pass the chance to live through a lavish, world-stopping royal wedding? At the very least, an engagement announcement is sure to be close at hand.
