Cutting A Wedding Cake
Filed in archive Wedding Cake on June 5, 2007

For many weddings, the cutting and serving of the wedding cake is done by the caterer but there are situations where you may need to do it yourself. Some times, when the cake is not provided by the caterer, cutting and serving the cake yourself can save a fair amount of money. In some areas, it is also a tradition for the bride and groom to cut and serve the entire cake themselves. Whatever it is that leads to the decision to cut your wedding cake yourself - it is important to know how to cut a wedding cake correctly because cutting it like a regular cake will leave you with very large pieces, and not enough for each guest.
Pastry Wiz offers a great guide that shows how to cut different shapes and sizes, and gives you an idea of how many pieces you should be able to get from each layer - a very useful tool if you need to cut your wedding cake yourself.

I help run a wedding venue and would like to add to this blog. Make sure you cut the cake early during the reception. That way the very expensive cake will be eaten by the guests. If you wait, many of the guests will have left (parents with young kids and the older folks) and you will have LOTS of cake left!
