Choosing the Perfect Attendants

Filed in archive General Planning on December 12, 2008

When it comes to selecting the women who'll help you leading up to and on your wedding day, who do you choose? It always amazes me when brides-to-be feel guilted into picking certain people. Remember: your attendants are your closest allies, ladies who you can trust and depend on. You shouldn't feel obligated to pick a bridesmaid because she's your fiance's sister (who, by the way, can't stand you - I've seen it happen).

Sometimes, if your wedding party has to be limited, it can be very difficult to narrow your choices down if you're afraid of disappointing someone. If you have to make the agonizing decision to pick one person over another, try to soothe the friend you don't pick with the right explanation, whether it's because you've known Person A longer, she saved your butt during a scrape, she dated your brother...whatever. Just don't ignore Person B's feelings.

You also shouldn't feel forced to choose an attendant due to parental pressure. On your wedding day, you want to be surrounded by people who love you and are thrilled to be there for you. By choosing your best friends as attendants, you're sure to have that warm and fuzzy feeling all day long.
