Smell

A great deal can be determined by the smell of wine. If you were an expert you could tell how old the wine is, how it was preserved, and what sort of ingredients might have been added to the grapes, just from the scent. Taste

Choose a wine that tastes good to you above all else. It migth take a while but there is a wine out there that is perfect for your tastes. Always smell the wine before tasting it to make up for what the tongue can not sense. Wines are very complex, our tongues are not. Also try to choose a wine that isn't too strong so that everyone will be pleased.
